Wind Dam is an enormous spinnaker positioned at strategic points (such as the bottom of a gorge or narrow valley) to capture the wind and channel it towards a turbine. This new type of wind-based plant will take shape by 2010 at Lake Ladoga in north-west Russia. The architect Laurie Chetwood says he wants to give his project a “sculptural form” and compares it to a “bird dipping its beak in the water.”
