Subject: Beware of the Cracks at the Tate Modern
Tone: Earthy white

A crack 167 metres long (along with signs warning you to “beware of the crack”) now “decorate” the white flooring of London’s Tate Modern.
For Salcedo, the crack represents a history of racism, running parallel to the history of modernity; a stand off between rich and poor, northern and southern hemispheres.

She invites us to look down into it, and to confront discomforting truths about our world.
We like it for its penetrating, and wholly destabilizing feel – really graphic.
